What is being a good leader? A good leader involves a lot of hard work and lots of leadership skills. It is very good to be a leader, because that means that you have followers that look up to you and think of maybe becoming a leader when they are older. Pastor Dr. I believe this with everything in side of me which calls my attention to the five areas of Exemplary Leadership. Within those areas of leadership there is one area that I may focus on and pay close attention to as I am developed into a great leader. There are other areas that I have to improve in and continue to sharpen my tools, but this area requires the most attention.

This area is the weakest because when operating in this area you have to make moves and take risk. I understand that God has not given us the spirit of fear…. My 22 of years as a Non-Commissioned Officer and 27 total years of service in the Army has shaped how I define leadership. Simply put, I believe leadership is the balancing of two competing priorities, the accomplishment of the mission and the welfare of the people that are in your charge. Others can probably think of a million other subcategories that help define leadership, but I believe those are the two overarching things leadership encompasses. The three characteristics of leadership that I consider most valuable are 1 integrity, 2 humility, and 3 generosity.

Strength of character. All of these words describe great qualities that should be possessed or obtained in the individual or individuals considered to fill a leadership role with exceptional expectations! Great sincerity means that a person possesses honest, faithful, and genuine traits. Virtue is defined as moral excellence, morality, goodness, effectiveness of quality, purity and chastity, and innocence. My leadership style is best described as a funnel. My aim in leading others is not to conduct every single individual, but to guide everyone to work towards the same central goal.

I believe it is best to let others bring their own unique abilities to the table and use them to accomplish the task at hand. When I came into high school, school spirit was a joke. At games, everyone sat and no one said a thing. I decided that needed to change. They told my friends and I to sit down and shut up. I kept standing, I yelled louder, and kept going. Eventually, I started a spark. By the end of my freshman year there were a group…. Leadership is a fascinating concept. The term conjures up ideas of powerful, triumphant heroes with a group of followers defeating some evil enemy. Perhaps the enormous allure to leadership is because of the influence it has on practically everyone's life.

Stories of heroic leadership go back to biblical times with Moses leading his people out of Egypt. The leadership influences for me started on the first Monday morning quarters onboard the CGC Yocona. I was right out of recruit training, firing on all cylinders and ready to tow the Coast Guard line. Quarters was held on the mess deck and the young BM3 was handing out work lists for the day. I did not know who he was but I watched and listened to everyone call him by his first name. Once orders were given out to all parties he then asked if there were any questions.

I was not introduced nor given a work party so I raised my hand to inquire where I was to go. I mistakenly asked him by his first name where I was to go. The morning turned from bright and casual to tense and stormy in an instant as he verbally tore into me as loud as possible. This degraded and embarrassed me which…. Throughout my life so far, there have been events in which I have lead others. In these events, my leading methods have varied. One experience I have had leading others happened when I took karate throughout my child years. A successful leader always takes time to self-reflect and to looks for ways to improve their style and skills.

I used the Seven Habits Profile to evaluate my present leadership style so I could understand my leadership style and be able to identify my strengths and weaknesses. By doing this, I was able to identify where I had opportunities for improvement. Using SMART goals I will set courses of action for improvement. A leader will ingrain a sense of positivity and necessity towards the set goal using the power of written and spoken word. The qualities of a leader differentiate between between each society. Leadership is about being a role model and having a positive impact on people through working and living by example. Leadership is about consciously changing and challenging yourself for a purpose you believe in.

I have been a part of many clubs and organizations where I have had the opportunities to lead a team or be a helping hand. I have had many leadership experiences and they are all great, however, there is one leadership role that makes me very proud of myself and I am a part of it everyday. Coming from a refugee camp to a country seemed like worlds apart in terms of economics or through opportunities. We as family encountered many barriers that separated us from the American culture; barriers such as language, skills for working in various workplaces, and the customs of living itself.

Van Dorp et al. Conclusively, in a study conducted by Smits et al. difficile Longtin et al. For this reason, creating surveillance and preventive measures ought to be based on these current findings thereby ensuring that new onsets are mitigated and the infection controlled efficiently.

Currently, most of the preventive measures for C. difficile are used after patients become symptomatic. However, preventing the spread of this endemic infection ought to be based on early prevention efforts that mitigate the onset of adverse symptoms. Among the proposed solution is educating care providers how to identify patients at a high risk of being infected such as elderly patients, patients prescribed with antibiotics, as well as those prescribed with common heartburn medication Longtin et al. This measure should be integrated with the establishment of a system for early reporting of patients with C. Moreover, it would be imperative to provide training and educational programs to the staff tasked with environmental cleaning.

This measure should be integrated with evaluating policies, procedures, practices as well as audits evaluate the efficacy of their cleaning practices CDC, The ED should also contain policies and procedures that outline the responsibilities and tasks for disinfecting and cleaning items for ED patients including intravenous poles and multi-use electronics Collignon et al. Finally, given that patients in the ED are often examining room with more than one patient, it would be imperative to ensure that patients with C. difficile are examined in a single room with that has a dedicated toilet.

Providing education and training to care providers in the ED is essential given that prior preventive approaches focus on asymptomatic patients. For this reason, educating them on how to identify patients with C. difficile early would go an extra mile towards mitigating the spread of the infection as well as decreasing deaths associated with the infection among geriatric patients. Integrating this approach with the development of a system for early reporting of patients with C. On the other hand, educating and training staff responsible for cleaning and disinfecting is imperative as patients with C. difficile release large volumes of spores that are then found in several surfaces of the room and are often transmitted to other patients through fomites on the equipment used by staff.

Developing policies and procedures outlining tasks and responsibilities would go an extra mile towards establishing adherence and discipline among those responsible for cleaning and disinfecting Collignon et al. Conclusively, examining patients separately in a single room is also an essential approach following the fact that the infection is airborne and the spores released by patients with the infection may be transmitted to other patients. The implementation of the proposed solution requires additional resources. Primarily, it would be imperative to acquire audio, video as well as print materials.

These materials would go an extra mile towards facilitating the education and training programs. With the resources, control charts would be created to displays the rates and cases of C. difficile that have been recorded in the healthcare facility over the past 5 years thereby determining the trends and how they can be addressed with early surveillance Anderson et al. Moreover, with the video and print materials would be used to create presentations on the effective cleaning and disinfecting routines and methods for staff responsible for environmental cleaning and disinfecting.

An educator for educating the nurses and those responsible for environmental cleaning and disinfecting will also be required. Despite the costs that will be associated with these materials, the end result will put the healthcare organization in a competitive position. Primarily, the strategy will lead to the prompt detection of high-risk patients and decrease the spread of the infection to other patients Collignon et al. Moreover, it will lead to the prompt treatment of patients with C. difficile further increasing patient safety and quality. As a result. In the first week would include orientation, where the clinical staff operating in the ED would be brought up to speed on what was about to take place. Moreover, current practices would be evaluated as well as current practices that may be leading to increased rates of C.

The second week would entail engaging relevant stakeholders to support the implementation of the changes. Moreover, formal teams of healthcare providers and the staff responsible for cleaning and disinfecting would be created. On the other hand, the third week would entail critically appraising, evaluating and synthesizing evidence. Moreover, this week would also entail assessing and eliminating probable barriers to implementation. The fourth and fifth week would entail establishing reporting procedures for symptomatic patients and developing procedures for tasks and responsibilities for cleaning and disinfecting.

The sixth week would entail training and educating the teams. The seventh week will include requesting approval to implement the new practice and processes and implementing them. Conclusively, the performance evaluation and refining of the practice and process would be a continuous process. It would be imperative to derive that the implementation of the new practice process and procedures for mitigating the spread of C. difficile is dependent on the buy-in of the ED healthcare staff. More precisely the management, including the chief medical officer CMO , Clinical Nurse Manager, Clinical Operations Manager, Assistant Manager, the Chief Financial Officer as well as a representative of the county health department.

These stakeholders would go an extra mile towards contributing to the completion of the change process. Primarily, they would encourage the clinical staff in the ED to take part in ensuring that the implementation process runs smoothly. Moreover, they will play a very integral role in ensuring that the shareholders and board members of the organization have a full scope of the problem and approve the operations to address it. They will also aid in the development of effective C. As key stakeholders in the leadership position, they will be influential in gaining the support of relevant ED members while emphasizing on the significance of implementing the intervention. Lastly, communication plays a very integral role in ensuring a transition runs smoothly.

For this reason, these leaders would ensure that the channels of communication stay open among key stakeholders thereby compelling them to give their input on role development, voice their concerns as well as take part in reinforcing the accomplishment of major objectives Ford II et al.. The Chief Medical Officer and the Clinical Nurse Manager are among the key stakeholders who will help in the planning stage of the intervention implementation. This is because they oversee the authorization of relevant resources that would be employed during education. On the other hand, the Chief Financial Officer would oversee the budgeting and allocation of the training and education resources while the Assistant Manager will aid in fine-tuning the proposal before submitting to the board members for review for approval.

The other leaders would help in the development of processes and procedures as well as influencing the key ED staff members to embrace the intervention. After the current practices of preventing the spread of C. difficile have been reviewed, a team of nurses responsible for surveilling, diagnosing and treating patients and healthcare staff members responsible for cleaning and disinfecting the ED environment would be formed. They would be trained and educated by the educator and brought up to speed about the new policies and procedures for preventing the spread of C. With comprehensive training and education of the clinical staff members, the management would introduce the new practice policies after the chair of the board approves the interventions.

On the other hand, the success of the interventions will be evaluated by several possible metrics. Primarily, the rates of patients infected with C. difficile in the ED within the first month of implementation Ford II et al.. Then the rate of deaths related to C. difficile among patients who visited the ED within the first six months since implementation. An analytical model would also be used to assess the cost-effectiveness and success of the intervention given that C. difficile is a recurrent infection that has proven to be challenging to mitigate over the past decade World Health Organization, Throughout the investigation and proposal project, I have assumed different roles that have guided the completion of this project.

Primarily, I achieved my role as a scientist by employing evidence-based research and practices to establish that the spread of C. difficile in the ED is an endemic problem that requires prompt interventions. I achieved this through the developing scientific inquiries that were geared towards creating clinical decisions as well as through collecting and analyzing data correlated to C. difficile infection risk factors, detection and prevention measures based on evidence-based practices and research. My role as a detective was achieved by exploring and surveying the healthcare staff working in the ED to identify the possible factors leading to the spread of the infection among patients in the ED.

Conclusively, my role as a manager of the healing environment was achieved through the development, coordination as well as empowering others to learn and increase prevention awareness of C. difficile infection to unsuspecting individuals thereby increasing human dignity and welfare. Consequently, through the development of a well-thought-out intervention with the ability to improve patient safety as well as quality care while encouraging key stakeholders to take part in the development process, my role as a manager was attained. Author: Richard Pircher. As a college student, you must write essays on a regular basis since the latter is one of the most common types of home assignments. All this means is that in order to get good grades and be successful with writing the papers, you need to have a sound understanding of the structure. Additionally, what you should never neglect is the variety of essay types. Indeed, your essay will significantly differ from one type to another: description essay will most likely have a structure that is slightly different from an argumentative one. What you may have already encountered in your academic life is the work on a leadership essay.

Although it sounds pretty complicated and vague, it is mostly possible to master an essay on leadership. Below is a guide for you to get an insight into this particular essay type. A good leadership essay is the one in which the essay writer has fully covered the topic of leadership and understood its core ideas. More specifically, to end up with a flawless leadership essay, you will need to indicate what makes a person a good leader. For achieving the latter, you will most likely need to conduct research and trace how a particular person reaches his or her goals.

In other words, the task is to discover which actions the person undertakes, what their followers say about him or her, and how the person organizes the work. So, a leadership essay implies providing real-life success examples and further revealing them. Above all, a good leadership essay is the one that follows a precise, clear, comprehensive structure. Structuring your essay about leadership in the most coherent way leads to a win-win situation: you have fewer troubles and barriers to writing a brilliant essay, and your teacher is able to comprehend the essay easily. This guide is what you will need to refer to to get an insight into how the flawless structure for a leadership essay looks like and how it will let you take a benefit. To write a leadership essay that stands out, you first need to brainstorm all the ideas that you have and come up with a topic for your essay.

If you are struggling with this step, you may think of some of the most influential people, read about them, and find out what makes them unique. Or, you can pick any topic which is mentioned at the end of this article. After you have chosen an issue, it is time to structure your essay appropriately. As you already know, an essay constitutes three essential sections: introduction, main body, and conclusion. Below is the more detailed description of each of the parts. Of course, your leadership essay introduction will always vary depending on the topic of the essay. However, you can always begin by stating your vision of leadership regardless of the topic.

Additionally, to motivate the reader and instantly catch his or her attention, you may use a quote of a famous leader, or simply a quote which you find relevant to the topic. Be aware that you should avoid outlining the essence and the role of the leadership in your introduction; leave it for the body paragraphs. What you may also do in your leadership essay is ask a question, which will most likely intrigue the leader. Or it will at least give your reader an overview of what you will dwell on in your essay. You will need to divide the main body into paragraphs to make the structure more comprehensive. What you have to do at this point is give your reader a sound understanding of your ideas. Therefore, try to fit each idea in a single body paragraph so that you do not confuse your reader.

Do not hesitate to indicate your examples to strengthen your arguments. For instance, you may explain a fact that makes a particular person you are writing about a real leader. As you may already know, you need to restate your opinion and briefly summarize all the points from the main body in conclusion. For instance, if you wrote your essay on qualities of an effective leader, state the most fundamental qualities and indicate why they matter the most. Besides, try not to copy what you have already written in the body — it is better to restate your opinion using different words. And, of course, beware adding any new and extra information; indicate only those points that you have already outlined in the text.

Finally, keep in mind that it is always favorable to keep your concluding remarks short. Writing a leadership essay requires some research and time. In case you feel the necessity to go through an essay example, below is a leadership essay sample you can refer to. Is everyone capable of becoming a leader, or is this ability innate? A lot of researchers have been struggling to answer this question. One assumption about leadership implies that the leader is the person who possesses particular characteristics. Another assumption claims that leaders are capable of acquiring specific features over their life span.

As the evidence shows, leaders own many features that distinguish them among others and make more and more people become their followers. These might be cognitive abilities, psychological traits, professional qualities, and a lot more, and all of them will be either acquired or innate. Based on the importance of leadership qualities, such as commitment, stress resistance, and the ability to make quality decisions, it is reasonable to claim that leaders are made, not born. One can deem commitment as one of the top fundamental qualities of the leader. In essence, such a feature indicates that a person is passionate about the common goal, strives to be a team player, and makes every effort to reach a shared goal.

As the history shows, none of the successful companies was uncoordinated by an influential, committed leader: Apple, Amazon, Microsoft — all of these companies are examples of dominant teams led by a dedicated leader. A committed leader also inspires his or her team to achieve common goals and put more effort into the shared activity. Besides, commitment is unlikely to be an innate feature; it instead comes with experience. This is so, since commitment implies dedicating oneself to the shared task, and one can reach it only via learning and continuous self-improvement. Stress resistance is another incredibly important feature that every good leader should possess. This is because only a stress-resistant leader has sufficient capabilities to overcome any complexity and not let the anxiety and stress prevent him or her from making proper decisions.

Besides, such a leader will most likely have a positive influence on the team, as long as leading by example will motivate the team members to attain the same emotional stability. However, although some researchers admit that emotional stability is something one is born with, it is not entirely true; many people still put a great effort into self-improvement, changing the attitude to unfortunate situations, and so on. Therefore, being resistant to stress can be mostly attributed to a personality. In particular, such quality is incredibly fundamental for a company of any size and professional orientation. Additionally, it is one of the top tasks of a good leader to make final decisions. What he or she should do implies brainstorming, discussing various opinions in the group, making forecasts, analyzing all the pros and cons.

However, the leader is the one to make a final decision. As it flows logically from the latter, an ability to make sound quality decisions is purely a professional quality. This leads to the conclusion that one has to work hard to become a genuine leader and master the skill of making effective decisions. Overall, the leader may possess a multitude of different skills and master them perfectly. However, what has so far become transparent is that any leader, regardless of which team he leads, must possess three essential qualities. These qualities are commitment to the common goal, ability to handle and resist stress, and, finally, an ability to make effective decisions. All of the three qualities are most likely to be acquired over a lifetime.

The statement below leads to the conclusion that even though some qualities can be innate, most are not the ones that leaders are born with. Hence, this answers an essential question: leadership feature is acquired, and not necessarily inborn.
